So Where Do You Come In?
A New First-of-a-Kind Volunteering Program!

If you are backpacking in East Africa and are looking to combine volunteering experience in your travels,
If you are looking for an open-minded organization, where you could express yourself and give in your  own creative way,
If you want to influence people who have realized they want a change in their lives,
If you are looking for human culture exchange, a place where you can learn and teach,

This is the place for you!

A young affordable volunteering program, where you will be given the chance to make a real change, and will get to experience real Africa!

Our Goals...

1. Human Culture Exchange- creating an interaction between two different cultures,

one that will lead to mutual learning and sharing
2. Empowering the community for sustainable development and self-reliance
3. Capacity building for individuals, in the hope of expanding their profession opportunities

The Program

Living Conditions
The program is based on maximum interaction with the community, therefore the volunteers will be living in the village itself. The volunteers will have their own house in the village, with an option of living with local families, depending on the participants' own preference. In order to make the experience as local as possible (and because there is no other way), the volunteers will live in basic and simple conditions- a small mud house, local toilet and shower (sorry, no hot water!), sun and candle lightening only, cooking on firewood, eating local food and pumping your own water.

This might sound frightening, but you will be surprised to find out how little we need in order to be happy!

Costs

The organization is a non-profit one, and therefore the volunteers will pay only for their living expenses (food, transportation and personal needs). There will be total transparency regarding the money uses.
In this program, we are looking for your creative ideas, motivation to be active and give from yourself, and not for your money. We believe that your active involvement, can lead to great change which cannot be replaced by any amount of money.
Any donations will be given separately, and not as part of the payments for the program.

Fields of Involvement

1. MBIRIZI PRIMARY SCHOOL

Currently, most of the organization's work is concentrated around the school, and therefore the volunteers will integrate in the school activities and will continue the process by:

Working with the Teachers:

  • Working with the teachers for improvement of their teaching abilities, by exposing them to new teaching methodics
  • Empowering the shcool staff by developing a routine evaluation system of the teachers
  • Creating a ground for joint thinking and staff cooperation, in order to implement specific values among the students
  • Improving the teachers' level of English grammer (all studies in school are done in English)

Working with the Students:

  • Adding extra enrichment studies to the school curriculum such as music, art, drama, ourdoor activities etc,  (depending on the volunteers' skills and desires)
  • Adding P.E. (physical education) classes as an integrated part of the school syllabus, and implementing certain values through sport activties
  • Creating a supporting environment for studies, by giving extra lessons and helping students with homework during the afternoon
  • Executing routine-braking "peak days" for the whole school revolving different subjects such as hygiene, cleaning, sports, and art and craft activities

2. AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

  • English lessons for adults- most adults in the village did not attend school as kids, and therefore they are illiterate, and do not know English. English is the formal language in Uganda, and therefore knowing the language will help the villagers integrate better in society.
  • English lessons for teenagers- currently there is only a primary school in the village, and therefore most kids, once finishing grade 8, do not proceed on to high school. This creates a situation where teenagers stay at home with their parents and do not continue enriching themselves. Until a high school will be built, daily English lessons for the teenagers will keep them focus on studies.
  • Enrichment studies for adults- capacity building for individuals in the community through teaching about agriculture, healthy household, geography, etc.
  • Youth Movement- establishing a youth movement in the village, one which will unite the teenagers and will motivate them to work together for the improvement of their village. In the meetings, different values will be addressed- responsibility, cooperation, leadership, initiative and helping the community. The goal is to
